So I got a new mac book pro 2011 version with Lion on it. I almost got a heart attack when I tried to install Final Cut Studio 2 and it won’t let me!! Turns out Apple had cut Rosetta off Lion. I tried to use a firewire cable and remote install the app (insert disc in old Mac, set install target to be new mac), it won’t let me!
Thank God I found this:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3215228?start=0&tstart=0
“Get Mac OS10.6 (Snow Leopard) (less than 50$), and install only optional installs. In the package you’ll find Rosetta and Quicktime 7 (also usefull). Ignore the rest. After installing Rosetta you’re able to install FCS2 without any problems. I haven’t tried creating a project yet, but FCS2 opens as usual and seems to be functional.”
I tried 10.5.6 but it didn’t have Rosetta. And magically, I actually have a Snow Leopard available to me!! (10.6.3) and walla, the Rosetta and QT7 are both listed. I don’t see Rosetta in the applications list but FCP seems to be able to install now!! OH MY GOSH!
Now let’s see if this macbook pro can render those filters on 1080p videos so I don’t have to buy a Mac Pro tower!
Hi EON Song, like to check if the FCS 2 running well on the LION according to the method you mentioned?
Because I’m planning to get a new mac with Lion pre-installed and like to install the FCS 2 on it.
Thanks
Hi Chung,
Yes, I have been using FCP regularly and it’s working fine on my Lion MacBook pro. Rendering is still too slow for me and it complained about some filters but then proceeded the rendering.
