I had to see it for it’s fame and the record high ticket sale. I should say, I wasn’t disappointed in that theatre because I had a realistic expectation of the movie. It’s a masterpiece in visual effects! 3D is definitely an inseparable part of the product. I took the glasses on and off several times through the movie, and 3D definitely added that “you are really there” kind of feeling. You get much better sensation of how big things are, how they interact with you, etc. Alright, I can talk about the effects and the absolutely stunning visionary forever. As far as the story, it was …simple… the language was flat… The description of the peaceful spiritual tribe is a little over done, which actually took me out of the fairy tale story. Furthermore, the whole conquer a “bird” and make it your “ride” thing is just too %$#%. Come on, conquer something against its will, insert your “**”, then it will become your dedicated ride and be yours only forever…..doesn’t it sound familiar!
A Serious Man
I admit, I missed lots of cross references but still it was really hard to sit through the whole movie. After reading some reviews, I understood more of the movie but still I think they could have expressed the same concept with half of the time. I like intellectual movies but pass one point, I swear it’s like a game called “the less you understand the more you will respect” … like EVA. LOL, I guess I’ll get lots of eggs thrown on me for that.
Magnolia (1999)
A master piece. Though I don’t think people should spend too much analyzing power over coincidences, I do admire Paul Thomas Anderson’s writing and directing. He weaved everything together so nicely. You are never tired of one story or have jetlag between stories. Great actors too. I love John C. Reilly’s performance. I was actually surprised by Tom Cruise’s performance.
