The nice dreamy shallow DoF comes with a daunting task:  follow focus. There are different systems out there, ranging from $300-$1000.  The good thing about those systems is it’s tactical control. But when a lens has a narrow focus ring, this becomes difficult. Also, it’s difficult to operate both the focus and camera in the limited space.

This USB follow focus is dinitely a new direction. I’ve thought about using the program interface for follow focusing but I gave that up when I adjusted the focus using the Canon interface. It wasn’t smooth enough. Maybe the step can be smaller using their API. From the look of the testing video, Okii’s step is small enough to produce a smooth focus shift.
