One of the posts today is about two new policies that Chinese government will execute next year. I will roughly translate her article here.

In the past, China have tried to control small scale high pollution, small scale energy consuming and small scale labor intensive companies by forcing them to close or switch. However, that didn’t work very well since those companies would just wait a little and reopen. This time, China is trying from a deeper level.

1. Labor law change. If the companies want to obey the law or avoid law suit, they would have to largely increase their labor cost. Therefore, lots of hopeless labor intensive, low profit sweat shop would be closed. They won’t all disappear, but hopefully, more machine driven manufacturing companies will prosper.

2. Export tax. Coke (consists mainly of carbon) and most types of steel products would have to pay higher tax. That should suppress the production of those products and therefore decrease the pollution caused by manufacturing of those products.

Sounds promising.
