I went to an interesting audition today. It was for the Mimoda Studio theatre.  We did some warm up like imagining you have a fireball that goes around the body, or having an umbrella in your hand (and interact with a partner) or looking for stones that will lead you out in slow motion, or keep your hand in one spot and dance around. They were all kind of odd that I didn’t get to use my body much. During break, I saw two company members dance with each other. It was more like a child’s game. I do something, you either match or do something else. But with intention. They were having fun and it was engaging to the audience. It’s not technically a “dance” but it was to the music, every bit of it.

1. Let the music affect you. Interpret it. Feel it. (Like the acting thing, have a Viewpoint, lol!)

2. Be specific! See things, touch and feel things, interact things!
3. When you are with a partner, have fun! Coordinate or take a lead, whatever!

By the time it was free moves, I felt totally free. I let my hair down so my hair can become part of my body. The music fades into the background. I am no longer trying to hear it, it is just there, affecting me naturally, happy or sad. I hear growth, so I see myself growing branches, then given a life, I pull myself out of the earth, move around, see a new world, see the people, scared, run away, find another world, it has water, dive in, swim freely! Music changes, Festival! Russian, Indian, African, whatever. Then it is suddenly sad. I sink to the floor, crawl forward to reach for my lover, he is dead. I am sad, I am angry. I run away. Then it is happy again (that was a hard transition), Spanish music, bull fight, big red skirt!  Lively and Seduction!  On and on… It felt so good!

So lively!

Move to the music
