I don’t remember how I was introduced to this movie. I vaguely recall someone told me that it was very funny. So I rented it and presented it to C as a Friday night dinner + comedy movie package.
The movie started with a serious yet romantic title sequence… C started asking, “you are not feeding me a romantic love piece, are you?” I defended, yet weakly “No, it is a comedy, just wait” … 20 minutes later C said “oh no, this is not one of those gay love, self exploratory movie, is it” … I continue my defense “no… it is a comedy…” C retorted “Why aren’t you laughing then?” I said “I am not laughing aloud but I am really content, inside!”
….
Conversations like this continue through out the movie. I had to convince him and myself that this is a different kind of movie. It’s not one of those typical Hollywood comedies that you see big blinking signs of “Laugh Here!” It’s subtle. The acting is real and the lines are really funny (considering the odd situation). Eventually, we got used to the style and pacing and start laughing, quite bit actually.
It’s definitely worth watching again.
I wrote a scene based on this experience and one online blog comment. J like it. Very cool!
